In A Pickle, 6th - Senior$140/Non-Members. $110/Members
July 18 - 22. 2022: 9AM - Noon, Edwards Place. This is a History Camp. Before we were able to get produce year round at the grocery store, food preservation was a necessary part of preparing for winter. Preserved foods could be kept in a cool cellar for an extended period of time, only to be opened as needed. These skills are still useful (and fun!) today. Campers will learn the skills to preserve foods on their own, and will take home their own products to share. |
Paperworks

July 18 - 22. 2022: 9AM - Noon, Mixed Media Studio. Media: Book Arts, Mixed Media, Drawing, Printmaking Put it down on paper! You should try to put your ideas on paper as they occur to you, or else you probably won't remember later, as the saying goes. In this camp, you will create a series of paperworks and book arts, from pop up gifs to journals stitched together in a range of styles. |
History Detectives, 6th - High School
$140/Non-Members. $110/Members
June 13 - 17. 2022: 9AM - Noon, Edwards Place. This is a History Camp. This camp will explore what it's like to be a historian. Campers will take field trips around the area to dive in with history and discover how life was lived in the past. They will get to meet historians and get hands-on with local sources. Springfield is filled with an exciting past, and this experience will give campers a behind-the-scenes view of that special history! |
Glass Fusing, 6th - 8th Grade

June 6-10: 1:30 - 4:30PM, or June 13-17: 1:30 - 4:30PM or June 20-24: 1:30 - 4:30PM or June 27 - July 1: 1:30 - 4:30PM or July 18-22: 9 AM - NOON or July 18-22: 1:30 - 4:30PM or July 25-29: 9 AM - NOON Limited Seating of 8. Media: Glass Fusing Glass fusing is the process of stacking two or more layers of compatible glass together to make a design. The stacked glass is placed in the super heated environment of a kiln where it melts together. you will make the decisions that make your work unique. It's your opportunity to be the artist. |
Wire Sculpture, 6th - 8th Grade

June 6 - 10 . 2022: 9 AM - NOON or 1:30 - 4:30 PM, Mixed Media Studio . Media: Wire Sculpture Create works of art through twisting and bending wire. This process can take some time, so you may only come out with one or two sculptures. You will start by creating a tree built from a rock base. If time allows, you will be able to construct your own design for the second project. |
A Stitch in Time (Beginner Embroidery), 6th - 8th Grade

June 13 - 17. 2022: 9AM - NOON, Edwards Place. This is a History Camp. his camp teaches the basics of embroidery - how to thread a needle, use an embroidery hoop, and three new stitches (cross-stitch, back stitch, and straight stitch). The Edwards family would have known how to embroider, as it was a popular past time for women in the 19th century. Campers will complete a project to take home at the end of the week. |
Two Stitches in Time (Intermediate Embroidery), 6th Grade - Senior
$140/Non-Members. $110/Members
July 18 - 22. 2022: 9AM- Noon, Edwards Place. This is a History Camp. This camp is for those that already know the basics of embroidery. Campers can learn six or more embroidery stitches using "pillow ticking" fabric. By the end of the week they will have a project that they can frame as a sampler or create a small bag. |
Plaster Sculpture, 6th - 8th Grade

Cooking Up History, 6th - High School$140/Non-Members. $110/Members
June 27 - Jul 1. 2022: 9AM - Noon or July 11 - 15. 2022: 9AM - Noon, Edwards Place. This is a History Camp. Campers will learn about some typical 19th century meals from actual Edwards family recipes, while getting the opportunity to try their hand at cooking them! By the end of the week, campers will gain knowledge of cooking skills, can try their own creations, and get to take home recipes from the camp to try at home. Campers will have the opportunity to eat their creations each day, so they will only want a light lunch before attending! |
Architectural Sketching, 6th - 8th Grade

June 6 - 10. 2022: 1:30 - 4:30 PM, Broadwell Building, 2nd Floor Studio. Media: Drawing, Painting This camp will be held in our Downtown location, the Broadwell building on the Old Cap Square with a great perspective of the Old Cap Building itself. You will be out on the streets doing architectural sketches and finishing them off with paints and ink washes to create a series of architectural drawings. |
Comic Drawing, 6th - 8th Grade

July 11 - 15. 2022: 9 AM - NOON, Broadwell Building, 2nd Floor Studio. [Richard Kohlrus]. Media: Comic Drawing Campers will create their own comic character, story line, drawing, and inking of a book. They will focus on how to have a complete composition of storyline and movement throughout the frames while depicting motion and emotion. |
Sew Easy (Beginner Sewing), 6th - 8th Grade

June 13 - 17, 2022: 1:30 - 4:30PM, Edwards Place. This is a History Camp. Campers will learn the basics of hand-sewing - how to thread a needle and learn the basic stitches - back stitch and straight stitch. There will be a group project that will be displayed in historic Edwards Place and a personal project completed during the camp week. |
Sew Crafty (Intermediate Sewing), 6th - High School

July 18 - 22, 2022: 1:30 - 4:30PM, Edwards Place. This is a History Camp. This camp is for those that have learned the basics of sewing already (how to thread a needle and basic stitches). Campers will be able to select their own sewing project from many 19th century patterns and design options. |
Printmaking, 6th - 8th

July 11 - 15. 2022: 9AM - NOON, Mixed Media Studio. Printmaking is an artistic process based on the principle of transferring images from one surface onto another surface, most often paper or fabric. You will create multiples in a multiple ways from lino cuts, collagraphs, and more! |
3D Printed Sculptures, 6th - 8th Grade

June 13- 17. 2022: 9 AM - NOON or July 11 - 15. 2022: 1:30PM- 4:30PM, Broadwell Building, 3rd Floor Computer Studio. Limited seating of 6. Media: 3D Printing Campers will design 3D printed sculpture or game pieces. They will be introduced to design software and 3D printing processes. |
Wheel Throwing, 6th - 8th Grade

July 18 -22, 2022: 1:30 - 4:30PM or June 20 - 24, 2022: 9AM- Noon or July 25 - 29: 9AM - NOON, Prairie Earth + Fire Ceramics Studio. Media: Ceramics, Wheel Throwing In this camp, your camper will tackle the wheel. They will create pieces of all shapes and sizes on the wheel. It is a traditional wheel throwing class to become familiar with pottery and glazing techniques. |
Knitting Party, 6th - 8th Grade

June 6 - 10, 2022: 1:30 - 4:30PM, Edwards Place. This is a History Camp. This is a beginning knitting camp for those with no experience. Campers learn the basics of knitting, like how to cast on, the knit stitch the purl stitch, and how to cast off. There will be a project to be completed during this camp. |
Write On! 6th - 8th Grade$140/Non-Members. $110/Members
July 25 - 29. 2022: 9AM - NOON, Edwards Place. This is a History Camp. This camp is based on exploration of calligraphy (the art of beautiful handwriting), often used during the 19th century. Students will learn how to write using the Chancery Cursive “hand” and will also explore the tradition of illuminated manuscript (handwritten pages with painted images including precious metals). |
Fiber Workshop, 6th - High School$140/Non-Members. $110/Members
July 25 - 29. 2022: 1:30 - 4:30PM, Edwards Place. This is a History Camp. This workshop is for those who have their own projects in knitting, embroidery, weaving, or sewing that would like assistance to continue their work. It's a great camp for those who have attended earlier camps throughout the summer. Campers can bring their own materials (lower price) or use materials provided by Edwards Place (higher price). |
Photography

June 20 - 24. 2022: 1:30 - 4:30PM, Broadwell Building, 3rd Floor Photography Studio. Nearly everyone takes photos nowadays; most of whom wish they could take better images. In this course, students will be introduced to composition skills and techniques to help them take better photos while also learning about and how to use the camera. Must bring your own digital camera. |
Stained Glass

July 25 - 29. 2022: 9AM - Noon, Baima Glass Studio. In this course campers will learn how to make a stained glass suncatcher. Using the copper foil technique, campers will learn how to cut glass, grind, foil, and solder a stained glass window. Pattern production, tools, and glass selection will be discussed. |
Intro to Metals, 6th - 8th Grade

June 20 - 24: 9AM - Noon, Smith and Nickelson Metals Studio. Media: Metals Jump into metalsmithing with this crash course in small decorative pieces, and traditional jewelry. You’ll learn how to use stakes and hammers to shape your art, rivet and solder metals together. Finish pieces off with a patina polish to keep them shining long after you leave camp. |
Rings!, 6th - 8th Grade

June 27 - July 1: 9AM - Noon, Smith and Nickelson Metals Studio. Media: Metals 5 GOLDEN RINNNNNNGSSS!!! It's Christmas in July and we are talking rings. You will learn the ins and outs of constructing / fabricating metal ring styles. Disclaimer: There may be more or less than 5 rings depending on camper's designs and the rings will not be made of gold. :) |
