Beginning WatercolorTuesdays, January 7 - February 11, 3 - 5:30PM [6 WEEKS]. or Thursdays, January 9 - February 13, 6:30 - 9PM [Kate Worman Becker]
As a class we will paint 2 exercises that demonstrate the layering process of watercolor. As well as 4 paintings focusing on the traditional practices of linear brushwork, washes and glazes. As well as demonstrations of fun techniques like pouring, splattering and resist, that can only be achieved with the unique medium of watercolor. We will also focus on all the elements of design and how to apply them to create a solid composition. This class is designed to build a solid foundation in watercolor painting. Supply List: Supply List estimated cost $120 - 130 Supplies can be purchased through Cheap Joe’s or Blick Art Materials (Dick Blick) You are not obligated to purchase these supplies if you have your own. Please bring them to class. Beginning book - (strongly recommended but not required) The Watercolorists Answer Book: 425 tips, techniques and solutions by Gina Rath - Can be purchased through Amazon palette - styrofoam meat packaging trays work beautifully 1 container for water - rinsing brushes - whipped topping tubs are great absorbent towel or paper towel - cloth diapers or surgical towels, if you can find them, are the best #2 or 2B pencil pink eraser kneaded rubber eraser spray bottle - for ease of packing smaller is better - check the drug store “travel” section tracing paper - small pad sketch paper - small pad scratch watercolor paper or pad brushes - 1” flat, #12, #8, #4 round - Buy, at least, an intermediate grade brush or above. Student grade brushes are poor quality and achieve poor results. Prices vary dramatically depending on quality. paint - You need not purchase any paint if you have tube paint in the primary colors and a brown. This list is a good starter base. I strongly recommend paint from the tubes rather than pans. Prices vary slightly with brands. The material price estimate for this class is a brand average in tubes. Good quality paint in 5 ml tubes run between $7 - 17 depending on the color. Water Media Open Studio will be for anyone working with drawing materials or any water-based, painting media. An instructor will be available to help with any technical or compositional questions. Students will be responsible for their own projects and materials. This is an opportunity for anyone wishing to pursue their own endeavors, while still having guidance and camaraderie. Acrylic & Oil: Inspired by MonetMondays, January 6 - March 3 (8 WEEKS - No class January 13), 2 - 4:30PM [Ashlynn Frey]
During this course students will learn about Monet and his art style as a French painter. He was associated with the Impressionism Art movement and known for his depiction of light and expressive brushwork. Students will create one painting as a study emulating one of Monet's original works and an original painting inspired by Monet’s style. If students are painting with oil paint, they must have previous experience painting in that medium. Supply List: Please bring (2) 8x10 or bigger canvases. Introduction to Acrylic PaintingTuesdays, January 7 - March 4 (8 WEEKS - No class February 25), 2 - 4:30 PM [Ashlynn Frey]
In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of drawing and painting by exploring the basic techniques and concepts of painting such as composition, perspective, color mixing, and how to put all those elements together in order to create a dimensional work of art. Students will create several small studies of still life items to help them develop the proper skills. Supply List: Please bring Strathmore Canvas Paper (found at Michael's). During this course students will learn about Wayne Thiebaud. He was associated with the Pop Art movement and known for his colorful works depicting common objects, like pastries, cakes, and ice cream cones to name a few. Students will create a Wayne Thiebaud inspired painting and a glazed plate. Supply list: Please bring (1) 8x10 or bigger canvas.
