Beginning Painting

Mondays, January 9 - February 27 (8 Weeks), 3:30 - 6PM [Ashlynn Frey]
During this course, students will learn the fundamental skills in creating a landscape painting.  Each week we will concentrate on one area of the landscape by having several mini exercises .  For instance, one week we will discuss the sky and the other weeks we will discuss trees, land, water, etc. Towards the end of the eight weeks, students will complete a full landscape painting.  Students will also learn and understand the basic techniques and concepts of painting such as composition, perspective, color mixing, and  how to put all those elements together in order to create a dimensional work of art.


Supply List : Check out Michaels, Dick Blick’s, or Jerry’s Artarama for reasonable prices. Please bring (2) 8x10 or bigger canvases - Liquin - Gamsol Odorless - 2 glass jars with lids - Paint Scraper - Cotton Rags - Palette-  Paint: Suggested Brands: Gamblin, Rembrandt, Old Holland, (Winsor & Newton or Ultrech – Less expensive)  o Titanium White o Yellow Ochre o Lemon Yellow o Cadmium Red Medium or Napthol Red o Alizarin Crimson o Burnt Sienna o Burnt Umber (or Raw Umber) o Ultramarine Blue o Phthalo Blue - Paint Brushes : o #1 Round o #2 Flat, Round o #4 Flat, Round o #6 Flat o # 8 Flat o #10 Flat

During this class, students will learn how to build and create their own compositions. We will discuss arbitrary color schemes, cubism, lighting and how to fracture known objects. Supply List: Please bring (4) 8x10 or bigger canvases.

This is an open studio, without instruction watercolor open studio. Bring what you would like to work on, enjoy a cup of coffee, and a great group to paint with.
