Smith and Nickelson Metals Studio Requirements
While in the Smith and Nickelson Metals Studio, we ask that you always wear closed toed shoes. Do not use equipment that you have not been trained on, unless an instructor is present. Meghan Reese's classes will have supply kits available for purchase on the first day of class. Bob Ritz will provide you with information to purchase your own supplies from Rio Grande. Beginner Students
Intro to Metals
Wednesdays, March 25 - May 13 [8 Weeks]: 6 - 9 PM [Kaye Demlow]
Intro to Metals students will learn the tools, materials, and processes of basic metal fabrication. The course will cover basic metal-forming, soldering techniques, patinas, and basic stone setting. We will also have the option of covering sculptural finishes. Ages 16+ SUPPLIES: Students should purchase some amount of 18-26g sheet of copper, brass or silver. They should also purchase a cabochon cut stone with the smallest measurement being no smaller than 10 mm. Sterling silver or copper strip 28g and height is based on the stone. Details will be discussed during the first class. Tools and some materials will be provided by SAA for students. Intermediate & Advanced Students
Advanced Jewelry - Independent StudyTuesdays, March 24 - May 12 [8 Weeks]: 10 AM - 1 PM [Meghan Tippy Reese]
Students will receive individually tailored and guided instruction on advanced metalwork and jewelry projects, with class discussions and demonstrations as we encounter new techniques and creative problem-solving opportunities. *Open to students who have previously taken at least 2 years of instruction or have extensive prior metals and jewelry experience; students should have a good working knowledge of hand tools, studio equipment and soldering.* Ages 16+ SUPPLIES: Mechanical pencils and fine-tip Sharpie markers. Bring jewelry pliers, tools, stones, and metals if you have them. Intermediate/Advanced Jewelry - Anything Goes!Tuesdays, March 24 - May 12 [8 Weeks]: 6 - 9 PM [Meghan Tippy Reese]
This course will give students an opportunity to level up their skills or try some new techniques while creating their own designs. Focusing on fabrication, topics may vary widely from stone setting to surface treatments (though we will not cover casting), with class discussion and demonstrations as we encounter new techniques and creative problem-solving opportunities. *Students should have basic experience with hand tools, soldering and studio safety.* Ages 16+ SUPPLIES: Sharpie markers (fine point), mechanical pencils, jewelry pliers and tools if you have them, stones, metals (copper, brass, silver sheet & wire) if you have them. Metal Casting + Fabrication
Thursdays, March 26 - May 21 [9 weeks]: 6 - 9 PM [Bob Ritz]
This class is for experienced and returning jewelry students. You will receive individual instruction and assistance with personal interests and objectives in casting, fabrication and jewelry. Intermediate and advanced techniques will vary with class interests. Ages 18+ SUPPLIES: You will be provided with information to purchase your own supplies from Rio Grande $240 Non-Members. $210 Members SAA Members--After hitting purchase, don't forget to sign in to receive your member discount! |
CANCELLATIONS OR REFUNDS OF CLASS
We do not issue credits, or roll forward tuition.
What is the class refund policy?
Class Refunds for 8-week classes and SAAmplers will be issued at 95% of original purchase price if you cancel 1 week in advance or more before class start date.
Cancellations made less than 1 week in advance will not be eligible for a refund. For example: If you cancel your class 48 hours before the start time, your registration is not valid for a refund. We can not issue credits or roll forward tuition.
