Smith and Nickelson Metals Studio Requirements
While in the Smith and Nickelson Metals Studio, we ask that you always wear closed toed shoes. Do not use equipment that you have not been trained on, unless an instructor is present. Meghan Reese's classes will have supply kits available for purchase on the first day of class. Bob Ritz will provide you with information to purchase your own supplies from Rio Grande. If you have completed at least one full 8 week class with us, you can join us for Open Studio on Tuesdays from 1-4 PM beginning January 7, 2025.

Beginner Students
Intro to Metals
Wednesdays, January 8 - February 26 1 - 4PM or 6 - 9PM [8 WEEKS]: [Kay Demlow]
In this course students will learn the basics of metal fabrication. Students will learn basic metal-forming, soldering techniques, patinas, and basic jewelry setting. Supplies: Tools and most materials will be provided by SAA for students. Student cost for further materials will depend on project design and discussed after the first class. Intermediate Students
Individualized Metal Casting
Tuesdays, January 7 - March 3 [9 WEEKS]: 6 - 9 PM [Bob Ritz]
You will learn the tools, history, and produce examples in broom cast, cuddle bone cast, and lost- wax cast. You will receive individual instruction and assistance with personal interests and objectives in casting, fabrication and jewelry. You decide what you would like to make and the instructor will help you achieve those goals. Intermediate & Advanced Students
Metal Casting + Fabrication
Thursdays. January 9 - March 6, [9 WEEKS]: 6 - 9 PM [Bob Ritz]
This class is for experienced and returning jewelry students. You will receive individual instruction and assistance with personal interests and objectives in casting, fabrication and jewelry. Intermediate and advanced techniques will vary with class interests. Advanced FabricationMondays, January 6 - February 24 [8 WEEKS.]: 6PM - 9PM [Meghan Tippy Reese]
We will discuss important functional characteristics and explore several types of bracelets including cuffs, hooked, hinged and linked bracelets. Students will be given individual instruction on projects of their design. This class is designed for intermediate students who have taken Intro to Jewelry or some prior experience with hand tools, soldering and studio safety. Supply list: Sharpie markers (fine point), mechanical pencils, jewelry pliers and tools if you have them, stones, metals (copper, brass, tubing, silver sheet & wire) if you have them. Advanced Jewelry - Independent Study
Tuesdays, January 7 - February 25 [8 WEEKS.]: 10AM - 1PM [Meghan Tippy Reese]
Open to students who **have previously taken at least 2 years of instruction or have extensive prior metals & jewelry experience**; students should have a good working knowledge of hand tools, studio equipment and soldering. Students will receive individually tailored and guided instruction on advanced metalwork and jewelry projects, with class discussion and demonstrations as we encounter new techniques and creative problem-solving opportunities. Supply list: Sharpie markers (fine point), mechanical pencils, jewelry pliers and tools if you have them, stones, metals (copper, brass, silver sheet & wire) if you have them.
