Ceramics
While working in the Ceramics Lab, we ask that you wear closed toed shoes, label all of your tools and clay, and abide by the policies of the studio which include:
- Cleaning your table work space, wheel and floor area 15 min. prior to end of every class.
- Do not empty clay buckets in the sink.
- Do not enter the kiln room or operate equipment that you are not trained to operate.
- Do not bring food labeled containers for storage.
- At the end of every session, please take all pieces home with you. Pieces left behind after the session has ended will be removed from the studio.
- We are only able to keep a set number of glazes in the studio. This includes 10 stroke and coat colors (pink to black), 10 mid range fire colors and a selection studio-made dip glazes. If you would additional colors that you want, you will need to purchase those colors on your own for personal work.
Beginning Students
Beginner to Intermediate Wheel Work
Thursdays April 12 - May 31: 6 - 9 PM [Kathy Adams]
Basic introduction to the pottery wheel. Students will learn how to center, open and pull clay into cups, bowls and vases. Class will also explore basic glazing techniques as well as alternative decorative techniques. Classes will be held at our temporary rental space at Benedictine University. Beginnermediate Ceramics
Wednesdays April 11 - May 30: 6 - 9PM [Ginger Lukas] This is a wheel-throwing class geared toward beginners/ intermeidate students. Instruction focuses almost entirely on working with greenware. The aim is to build confidence and skill with simple 6-inch tall cylinders before moving on to more complex forms. Classes will be held at our temporary rental space at Benedictine University. More details will be given in your confirmation email.

Intro to Handbuilding
Fridays April 13 - June 1: 11AM - 2PM [Kathy Adams]
This daytime class is only for handbuilders. Kathy will show you new techniques and unique styles in handbuilt ceramics. The possibilities are endless. Bring your creativity to create any size and shape, functional or sculptural artwork. SUPPLIES: 8 Piece Pottery Tool Kit can be purchased from our shop online, $10. 3D Clay Flower Workshop
Saturdays April 28 - May 5 [2 WEEKS]: 1 - 4PM [Ginger Lukas]
Learn how to make ceramic flowers of various kinds in this 2 week workshop. This is a perfect spring- time activity! Intermediate & Advanced Students
Intermediate to Advanced CeramicsTuesdays April 10 - May 29: 6 - 9 PM [Kathy Adams] Wheel and Handbuilders take skills acquired from the beginners adult class and expand their skill sets with the Instructor and peer input. Please be ready to share your knowledge with the class! This is a self driven learning environment. If structure is desired, one-on-one teaching with the Instructor is available. Age: 18+ Classes will be held at our temporary rental space at Benedictine University. More details will be given in your confirmation email.

Handmade Tiles
Mondays April 9 - May 28: 1 - 4 PM [Anne Logue] Students will create tile projects of their choice, including projects from individual tiles to multiple piece wall hangings. You will be handbuilding dimensional tiles. This has a sculptural aspect to this ceramics class, it is not a mosaic class.

Please bring an old bath towel and a container to hold your tools. Open Studio: Ceramics$7/hour for Members + Non-Members
While our ceramics lab is under construction, we will be housing our lab in the Benedictine University. SPRING SESSION TIMES: Monday, April 9 - May 28. 6 - 9PM and Wednesdays, April 11 - May30. 1 - 4PM. Raku Open Studio will be available starting in May on Tuesday 6 - 9PM. You can purchase extra clay in our online shop, $12 for 25lbs. ARTIST MEMBERSHIPS FOR THE CERAMICS LAB WILL NOT BE ISSUED UNTIL THE COMPLETION AND RE-OPENING OF THE SAA CERAMICS LAB. |
