Beginning Students
Handbuilt Ceramics
Thursdays Jan 14 - Mar 4 [8 WEEKS] : 6 - 9 PM [Kathy Adams]
Basic introduction of functional, non-functional pottery and ceramic sculptures. Class will also explore basic glazing techniques as well as alternative decorative techniques. SUPPLIES: 8 Piece Pottery Tool Kit can be purchased from our shop online, $10. The kits will be waiting for you on your first day of class. Beginner Wheel Throwing
8 Week Class. 3 hours [Scott Day] Choose Date Below
Learn the basics of wheel throwing in this beginner course. Students will learn how to center clay on the wheel, throw and trim bowls, and throw cups and make cup handles. This is a slow paced class for anyone who is just getting started with the wheel or wants a refresher course on the basics. Classes will be flexible and students are encouraged to bring their own project ideas that they would like to try! SUPPLIES: 8 Piece Pottery Tool Kit can be purchased from our shop online, $10. Intermediate Students
Lines and Tension and Body, Oh My!
Fridays Jan 22 - Mar 26: 6 - 9PM. 10 Week Class [Danny Brikshavana]
Learn how to fine tune your technique on the wheel in this 10-week intermediate course. Students will learn how to proactively plan a ceramic project, to balance form and function, and to see how tools may aid in their successful production of a full tea set within the 10-week session. Techniques planned to be covered include "throwing on the hump", lid/jar making, and basic introduction to making glazes. Classes will be more prescriptive and require students to already have the skill set to produce consistent wheel thrown cylinders. Tools needed: an N99 mask, sand paper (sheet of 180, 220, 320), round 3.5"x1.25" sponge and dowel (at least 12" length x .25" round) to make an extended sponge tool (instructor can provide items: $2 at cost). $230 Non-Members. $200 Members SAA Members--After hitting purchase, don't forget to sign in to receive your member discount! |
Intermediate to Advanced Ceramics

Wheel and Handbuilders take skills acquired from the beginners adult class and expand their skill sets with instructor and peer input. Please be ready to share your knowledge with the class! This is a self driven learning environment. If structure is desired, one-on-one teaching with the instructor is available. Tile and Handbuilding
Mondays Jan 11 - Mar 1: (8 WEEKS) 1 - 4 PM [Kathy Adams]
Students learn to use use slab techniques to roll out standard and inventive tile shapes, utilize techniques in image transfer, intuitive design, building up textures to create a raised surface, glazing and color that strengthens the image for forms that can serve as functional as well as pure artistic imagery. Hand building instruction is also included in which texture and three dimensional sculptural techniques will be given.
