Beginning Students
Wheel 1
Mondays, September 30 - November 18 [8 WEEKS] : 6 - 9 PM or Tuesdays, October 1 - November 19 [8 WEEKS] : 1 - 4PM [Maggie Packman]
Students will learn the basics of throwing on a potters wheel including how to throw cylinders and bowls, finishing techniques, constructing handles and other attachments, and various types of surface decoration. Pots will be thrown the first 6 weeks of class, leaving the last 2 weeks for finishing and glazing. Ages 16+ SUPPLIES: 8 Piece Pottery Tool Kit, Also needed are a 1 gallon container to hold supplies/and be a water bucket, an old towel, and a full-front apron. $205 Non-Members. $175 Members. Intro to Handbuilding
Thursdays, October 3 - November 21 [8 WEEKS] : 6 - 9 PM [Kathy Adams]
This is not a wheel throwing class. Basic introduction to functional, non functional and ceramic sculpture. Class will explore glazing techniques as well as alternative surface decorations and design. Intermediate student will receive guided instruction on their personal projects. New students will receive one on one instruction to introduce you to the clay process. Throw and SculptWednesdays, October 2 - November 21 (8 weeks): 12 - 3PM (Anne Logue)
Students will be introduced to the wheel and beginning sculpting and how to combine sculpture to wheel thrown pieces. Hand building will also be taught. Age: 16+ SUPPLIES: 8 Piece Pottery Tool Kit. Intermediate Students
Coils, Slabs, and Tiles!
Mondays, September 30 - November 18 [8 WEEKS] : 1 - 4 PM [Kathy Adams]
Students will learn to use slab techniques to roll out standard and inventive tile shapes, utilize techniques in image transfer, intuitive design, building up textures to create a raised surface, glazing and color that strengthens the image for forms that can serve as functional as well as pure artistic imagery. Hand building instruction is also included in which texture and three dimensional sculptural techniques will be given. Ages 18+ SUPPLIES: 8 Piece Pottery Tool Kit. Wheel and Handbuilders take skills acquired from the beginners adult class and expand their skill sets with instructor and peer input. Please be ready to share your knowledge with the class! This is a self driven learning environment. If structure is desired, one-on-one teaching with the instructor is available. Intermediate to Advanced Wheel Throwing
Thursdays, October 3 - November 21 [8 WEEKS]: 1 - 4 PM [Scott Day]
This course will help students improve their skills in throwing larger balls of clay, tall cylinders, necks and bottle openings, lidded jars, tea pots, large baking dishes, and other forms. Developing sculptural forms using thrown pieces will also be explored. Glazing techniques will also be emphasized. Age: 18+ SUPPLIES: Bring your own bucket with 8 Piece Pottery Tool Kit, sponges, and a towel. Masks are also required for spraying glazes. $205 Non-Members. $175 Members.
