Baima Family Sponsored School and Youth Organization Field Trips
14 Schools / Organizations will be granted a free Glassblowing Workshop/ Demos awarded by the Baima Family Sponsorship for their school or youth organization.
There are two options to choose from either, a glassblowing demo open to 30 students to watch a 2 hour demonstration (ages 8 and older) or 8 students (ages 14 and older) to attend a hands-on glass flower workshop. These placements will be awarded via email notification. Reservations will be reserved in the order that they were received. If you have participated in a previous Baima Field Trip, we ask that new organizations get a chance to participate before we start duplicating. Registration is Open Now! The workshops/ demos will happen between January to May 2025 on Thursday and Fridays 10AM - Noon, depending on your schedule. Please, fill out the contact form below to request your spot. |

Painting
$150 up to 12 Kids
$20/ additional child up to 30 max. Condell Studio/ Mixed Media Studios Lead Instructor 11 x 14 Canvas (1/ person) + Acrylics Theme for painting is determined by you, we can help with suggestions. 2.5 Hours Clothing Requirements: Aprons are available. |

Ceramics
$200 up to 10 Kids
$20/ additional child up to 12 max. Prairie Earth and Fire Ceramics Studio Lead Instructor Wheel Throwing (5th Grade and Older) or Hand building (All Ages) 2 Hours Clothing Requirements: Clothes you will get muddy in and closed toed shoes. If you have long hair, tie it up when working on the wheel. Pick Up Information: Pieces will be fired in the kiln. You will be emailed when they are ready for pick up. Allow one - 2 weeks for drying and firing time. |

Raku
$700 up to 15 Kids
$20/ additional child up to 25 max. Raku Patio/ Prairie Earth and Fire Ceramics Studios Lead Instructor and Assistant 1 Raku Pot/ child Raku Firing: Each child will glaze and keep their own pot, but they have to work together to accomplish the results. The Raku technique is essentially when glazed ceramics are taken from the kiln while they are still glowing red hot and are then placed in a material that would be able to catch fire, such as sawdust or newspaper. This technique is used to starve the piece of oxygen, which creates a myriad of colors within the glaze. It is a Japanese glazing process. Ages: 10 to High School Senior 3 Hours Clothing Requirements: Closed Toed Shoes. This is a smokey process, wear something you are ok with smelling like smoke. |

Tour the Historic Edwards Place
$2 per child
(Recommended 1 Chaperone /10 students is admitted free of charge) Each adult exceeding this ratio will be charged an adult admission ($5). One Hour Guided Tour Your tour through historic Edwards Place allows your class to step back in time and experience life in Abraham Lincoln’s Springfield, Illinois. Enjoy plenty of touch-it opportunities throughout this antebellum mansion, newly restored to its 1857 appearance. |
Reserve Your Event
Our Education Director, Maggie Packman, will be your contact person for your rental needs and questions. Please, fill out the form with your initial event request and she will get in touch. We require: - At least 2 weeks advance notice. - Rough Attendance Numbers need to be given a week before hand for materials. - Final Attendance Numbers need to be given on date of payment. Scout BadgesWe host scout badges for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts in drawing, painting, ceramics, comic drawing, metals, architecture, and general art badge.
All badge projects meet the requirements of the Brownie, Juniors, and Boy Scouts Art Badge. Fill out the attached form, either our Office Manager or Education Coordinator will be in touch to finalize dates and times.
For some of our workshops, we require a wavier to be signed by a parent or guardian. Upon confirmation of your field trip, we will provide the form for your students.
10 Schools / Organizations will be awarded a grant by the Baima Family for their school to attend the Glassblowing Workshop. These will be awarded twice a month for 5 months. We will work with you to schedule these workshops in the school calendar year. |
