Want To Become Part Of The SAA Board? The Springfield Art Association is governed by a 25 member Board of Directors. Members serve two-year terms. You don't have to be a member of the SAA to apply to be a board member; but you must be a member to serve on the Board or a committee. Annual memberships start at $55 for an individual. See the membership page for more info.
About the Board The SAA Board of Directors is a fun, diverse group of both artists and non-artists. We welcome a variety of perspectives, knowledge and skills. Serving on the board is a great way to meet new people, attend local events, expand your knowledge and skill of various art media, and support the visual arts in Springfield. While we take our mission seriously, our meetings and events are fun and flexible with your schedule. Time Expectations We are an active, "volunteer" board, meaning we need some of your time actively participating in SAA's events and programs. We are flexible, but you are expected to attend most monthly board meetings, sit on at least one committee, which typically meets once per month, provide refreshments for one art exhibition opening per year, help with the planning for, and volunteering at, an annual event, and attend as many exhibitions and SAA events as possible. Our board members agree that the time spent is enjoyable and manageable with their schedules. Expect to spend roughly 5 hours a month on your board commitments to support the arts. Qualities of an SAA Board Member The SAA seeks individuals who are passionate about the visual arts, believe in historic preservation in Springfield, and who are interested in working to make the SAA the best community visual arts center in central Illinois. He or she should be available for monthly meetings and have some additional time available for monthly volunteering requests, if needed. Sound Good? Submit Your Application Ready to join our board? Please apply! Submit a resume, cover letter outlining your interest and applicable experience, and any other documentation they deem applicable to the position. The deadline for application is October 1. A board member will meet with you in late October/early November to discuss the position and answer any questions you have. New board terms begin with the new fiscal year in January. If you have questions about serving on the board, contact the SAA director and a board member will get in touch with you. Applications may be submitted below, emailed to the Executive Director, Betsy Dollar, [email protected], or mailed to Betsy Dollar at 700 North 4th Street, Springfield, IL 62702. |
