Scholarships

Scholarships are available year round for all age groups.
They are awarded on both financial need and artistic merit.
You can only be awarded a scholarship once a year on a rolling basis.

In order to ensure equal access to SAA resources please review and honor the following scholarship eligibility and guidelines:

ELIGIBILITY

  1. EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: A student is only eligible for one full class OR summer art camp scholarship per year. Class sessions run Winter, Spring, Summer, Camp, Fall; that is to say, any spring session scholarship recipient must wait until the winter session to apply.
  2. Attendance of scholarship students is expected and will be monitored (exceptions will be made for medical reasons and emergencies with a written explanation). If a student is repeatedly late or absent, they may be placed on probation from receiving a scholarship for one additional year.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

  1. Applications can be submitted at any time but will be reviewed on a quarterly basis. A new application must be submitted for each class/camp session. If an applicant is not awarded a scholarship one session, the application does not roll over to the next session.
  2. Scholarship applications will be sent to the art instructors or principals of all Sangamon County schools and Springfield Art Association faculty.
  3. Parents, guardians or private parties may request scholarship applications via phone, e-mail, or mail. However, applications completed by a teacher or school staff have priority. Parental or private requests will be sent on an “as call” basis using the same criteria as participating schools.
  4. Criteria for selection will be based upon artistic merit and/or financial need as predetermined by the submitting school personnel.
  5. Upon deadline of application period, the Education Committee will review quarterly financials to determine the number of scholarships available based on funds. Scholarships will be awarded by SAA Staff based upon:
     - artistic merit and need as predetermined by the school
    - the goal of reaching a more diverse audience
  6. Upon completion of the awarding process, the Education Director will notify all applicants and schedule the recipients to attend classes/camp.

AWARDS
Upon approval and receipt of an award, the scholarship will cover all tuition and material cost for minors. Adults are responsible for providing their own supplies.
