Art History Happy Hour - Frank O'Hara
Thursday, February 19, 6 PM (Doors open at 5:30 PM)
presented by Julie Brown The poet and MOMA curator Frank O’ Hara is now recognized as an important and beloved figure who helped shape both 20th century poetry and art, though during his lifetime, he was not a celebrity except to his circle of friends, many of whom also already were or now are cultural icons. If there were a king of the loosely gathered New York School of artists, writers and musicians in the late 50s and early 60s, it was O’Hara, because he was at the center of it all. In the words of art critic Peter Schjeldahl, O”Hara was a “universal energy source in the lives of the few hundred most creative people in America.” Coming Up Next! April 16 - John Kearney (SAA Bison Artist!) presented by Barbie LaFrance |
