Torch Work

Tuesdays, March 24 - May 12 [8 weeks]: 1 - 4 PM or
Tuesdays, March 24 - May 12
 [8 weeks]: 6 - 9 PM [Jason LaBonte]
Torchwork students will learn how to melt borosilicate glass using the torch, create various forms with tools and hand movements, and properly how to properly attach additions to the form . Students will make a series of miniature glass works starting with clear glass. You will move into hollow forms and the use of color depending on class pace and individual practice.
Class Capacity is 6.
Ages 16+

Glassblowing 1

Mondays, March 23 - May 11 [8 weeks]: 6 - 9 PM or
Wednesdays, March 25 - May 13 [8 weeks]: 6 - 9 PM [Jason LaBonte]

This beginning course in glassblowing will teach you the fundamentals of the studio: tools and equipment usage, glassblowing techniques in the hot shop, and finishing techniques in the cold shop. You will learn basic forms in a hybrid of Italian/ American hot glass, beginning with clear glass and moving on to color as time and skill allow.
Class Capacity is 6.
Ages 16+

Stained Glass Pattern Drafting

Tuesdays, March 24 - April 28 [6 weeks]: 1 - 3 PM [Morgan]
This class will cover how to draft stained glass patterns from scratch! Students will be provided with guidance on how to break down a pattern so glass can accurately be cut without stress points and future breakage, learn how to design their own unique patterns, and hand-render a to-scale pattern. Students will complete at minimum one large scale pattern and receive professionally printed copies of their patterns. (This is a drafting class, creation of patterns with glass will be a separate class.) 
Class Capacity is 8.

Glass Fusing

Fridays, March 27 - May 15 [8 weeks]: 1 - 3 PM or
Saturdays, March 28 - May 16 [8 weeks]: 3:30-5:30 PM [Kaye Demlow]

For beginners this course will cover how to properly cut, adhere, assemble, and kiln sculpt fused glass for a variety of functional and decorative pieces. Students who have taken Glass Fusing before will have the opportunity for more complex piecing. 
Class Capacity is 8.
Ages 16+
SUPPLIES: N-95 dust mask [for frit work]. Students are welcome to purchase their own glass for specific colors [COE 90 and 96].

Intro to Stained Glass

Thursdays, March 26 - May 14 [8 weeks]: 1 - 4 PM or
Thursdays, March 26 - May 14  [8 weeks]: 6 - 9 PM  [Morgan]

In this course students will learn the copper foil process of making Stained Glass windows. Students will learn about the variety of tools, how to cut and grind glass, foiling, and soldering techniques. Students will complete a small suncatcher for practice and a large scale project in a design of their choosing.

Age: 16+
SUPPLIES: Glass and 7/32" Copper Foil and 60 /40 1 roll of Solder - Tools provided for use at the SAA. Student cost for materials will depend on size and complexity of design.

Mosaics

Saturdays, April 4 - May 9 [5 weeks]: 1 - 4 PM [Morgan] (NO class April 18)
In this course, students will complete several mosaic projects. Students will learn how to cut and form glass into their desired shape, adhere glass onto different surfaces, and seal them properly into place. We will work on small and large scale projects through the course.
Class Capacity is 8.

Ages 16+
SUPPLIES: Supplies and materials provided by SAA for the first few projects. Students will be responsible for materials for specific sizes, designs, or quantities beyond the first three projects. Details to be discussed during class.

Intro to Leaded Stained Glass 

Wednesdays, March 25 - May 20 [9 weeks]: 1 - 4 PM or
Wednesdays, March 25 - May 20 [9 weeks]: 6 - 9 PM [Morgan]
In this course students will learn the techniques of how to make a leaded Stained Glass window. You will learn about leaded window tools, the process of cutting glass and lead came, how to glaze a leaded window, the soldering process, and cementing. Previously completing the Introduction to Stained Glass course is highly recommended. Glass amount needed will depend on the complexity of your design.

SUPPLIES: Tools will be provided by the SAA. Student cost for glass is dependent on the amount needed for your chosen design.

Glassblowing 2

Thursdays, March 26 - May 14 [8 weeks]: 1 - 4 PM [Jason LaBonte] 
This class will cover more advanced forms such as cones, inverted cones, and spheres. We will touch on handles and other bits added to the glass. Focus for the repeat students will be on color application such as cane, murrine and Graal techniques, plus much more!
Class Capacity is 6.

As an extension to Glassblowing 2 we will go through more advanced shapes and forms. There will be room for independent study and exploration into glass techniques in scale, color application, and finishing with instructor support towards your personal goals.

Glassblowing 3 Independent Study

Tuesdays, March 24 - May 12 [8 weeks]: 6 - 9 PM 
This class will have no instruction, but a facilitator will be in-studio, which is reflected in the price. This is an opportunity to practice and refine skills from previous Glassblowing 3 classes and collaborate with your studio-mates!
Class Capacity is 6.

Ages 16+

CANCELLATIONS OR REFUNDS OF CLASS
We do not issue credits, or roll forward tuition.

What is the class refund policy?
Class Refunds for 8-week classes and SAAmplers will be issued at 95% of original purchase price if you cancel 1 week in advance or more before class start date.
Cancellations made less than 1 week in advance will not be eligible for a refund. For example: If you cancel your class 48 hours before the start time, your registration is not valid for a refund. We can not issue credits or roll forward tuition.
