Studio Policies and Procedures
Condell StudioCondell is our main studio for 2D and mixed media work. It is our longest running studio outside of Edwards Place and has been in use since 1949. This studio is stand out due its wall of North facing windows.
The studio is a large, single room 1,800 square foot space. STUDIO POLICY INFORMATION:

Ashlynn Frey is our 2D Studio Manager.
To contact Ashlynn, email [email protected] Ashlynn Frey was born and raised in Highland, Illinois and recently moved to the Springfield area. Ashlynn attended Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in 2-D Studio Art. She continued her education at Eastern Illinois University to pursue a Master of Arts degree in Studio Art, specializing in Painting. Currently, Ashlynn taught at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois and Jacoby Arts Center in Alton, Illinois. You can check out her website ashlynnfrey.com |
Baima Glass StudioThe Baima Glass Studio was established in 2019. Both hot and cold glass is offered in this space such as glassblowing, torchwork, stained glass (copper and leaded), glass fusing, and slumping.

Mario Clarke is our Glass Studio Manager.
Mario Clarke received his bachelors in graphic design and photography at Illinois State University in 2017. He returned to ISU as a Grad at Large to further his passion for glass blowing. His work consists of large scale figurative and abstract bodies of work. Mario is now the first glass blowing instructor at SAA. |
Prairie Earth and Fire Ceramics StudioThe Prairie Earth and Fire Ceramic Studio was built in 2019. The facility has materials and space for wheel throwing, hand building, glazing, electric firing, Geil gas firing, raku, and the occasional pit firing. We regularly low-fire to cone 04, mid-range fire to cone 6, and quarterly high-fire a cone 10 reduction.
This studio is a multi-room 2,400 square foot space with an attached raku patio. STUDIO POLICY INFORMATION:

Mary Rhein is our Ceramics Studio Manager.
To contact Mary, email [email protected] Mary Rhein was born and raised in Belleville, Illinois; home of Stag Beer. She graduated in 2021 with her BFA in ceramics from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Her work has been exhibited nationally at numerous galleries and art centers such as Companion Gallery, Charlie Cummings Gallery, the Clay Center of New Orleans, and the National Juried Student Exhibition at NCECA. In 2022 Mary was an ASPN short-term resident at Red Lodge Clay Center. Before coming to SAA, Rhein worked as the Programs Assistant/Studio Tech and ceramics instructor at the Edwardsville Arts Center in Edwardsville, IL, and taught ceramics and mold-making at Craft Alliance in St. Louis, MO. In her free time, Mary enjoys romping around the woods with her fiance´, Jordan, and their two dogs, Ippo and Guts. |
