Samra Aslam - Painting
My name is Samra Aslam . I follow Contemporary Realism, a style of painting that came into being in the 1960’s and 70’s, featuring a straight-forward approach to representation practiced by various artists.
I like to create art in a natural yet objective style, my discipline is representational art, where the object is to portray the real and not the ideal.Art is a descriptive language to aid visualization.. Art has been my inspiration from an early age. Born and raised in South east Asia I was very fortunate to have been born in a family where education was a prerequisite for a successful life. Growing up studying in Convent school, I had this unconscious burst of creativity even as a child. I was top student in my class for the Faculty of Art lasting 2 years which later led me to one of the most prestigious institutions, National College of Arts in Lahore Pakistan. This is where I studied 4 years and majored in printmaking with painting and miniature as minors. This led to me successfully finishing my thesis, "Moods and Feelings," which predominantly was about the female figure. Being in the workforce in Springfield, Illinois for almost 25 years, I now feel the need to pursue my passion for painting like never before. Depiction is a compilation of my perception of female form in various expressions regardless of cultural boundaries. There is no line that marks the limits of this area. Facial expression is one or more motions or positions of the muscles beneath the skin of the face. These movements convey the emotional state of an individual to observers. Facial expressions are a form of nonverbal communication. Painting to me is a perfect marriage of light...form and color. |
