Ruthann Mazrim - Pastel, Fiber & Mixed Media
"I began working with fibers in the 1980s, using Japanese shibori hand dying techniques. Wearable pieces eventually evolved into two dimensional fiber collages, inspired by the Midwestern landscape and its rural architecture. In the early 200s, I began working with oil pastels, transposing imagery used in earlier fiber work. My recent botanical series also refers to the natural landscape, but employs plant and insect ephemera in collages inspired by Victorian-era botanical collections and curiosity cabinets."
