Rita Young - Pastel

Rita Young was born in Brazil, Indiana in 1949 and came to Springfield, Illinois in 1971. She has remained in the area marrying husband Duane and raising three daughters.
Rita works part time as a bookkeeper but finds time to work in pastel from her home studio in Chatham and with fellow artists at The Springfield Art Association's Condell Studio. Rita's paintings can be seen in exhibits at the H D Smith Gallery and in various venues with the Illinois Prairie Pastel Society.
Rita began her art education with drawing and design classes at Lincoln Land Community College and pastel painting with local artist Sherri Ramsey. She has taken several workshops with nationally and internationally know artists such as Elizabeth Mowry, and Liz Haywood-Sullivan as well as using books and DVDs to explore mediums other than pastel.
Rita works representationally, painting landscapes, florals and still life.
