Phil Locascio - Pastel
Phil was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. As a result some artwork is Chicago based such as collages of Chicago’s famous landmarks and paintings of singular Chicago Street scenes. After living in Springfield now for over 30 years he considers it his home and has also done artwork featuring the many Springfield landmarks. The Chicago and Springfield landmark pieces seem to be Phil’s most popular works.
Phil primarily works in pastel as he considers himself better at drawing and pastel sticks allow him to utilize that talent. Often his work utilizes a separation of the layers of the pictorial plane. Suspended in a shadow box frame the departed layers draw the viewer onto the physical depth of the image. He also works in traditional 2D offering his patrons the opportunity to buy originals and prints of those paintings. Prior to taking to painting, his claim to fame has been as an author. Phil has written seven books all published by legitimate publishing houses. His books are in the suspense/thriller genre and can be found on Nook, Kindle, and Amazon. Phil’s seventh book, The Bane of the Curious, was recently released by World Castle Publishing. Phil collaborated with the publisher and was allowed to do the artwork for the cover of that book, thus melding his two artistic passions into one.
