Kate Harris - Painting, Drawing & Photography
Photography
"I have recently fallen in love with digital SLR Photography, after purchasing a DSLR camera. Viewing life through my camera’s lens has become a passion of mine. I take my camera with me daily, to capture places and things which I find interesting. I especially enjoy photographing landscapes, architecture, and gardens. These subjects evoke balance, harmony, and peace for me. I enjoy the photo editing process, and often convert my photos to Black and White. This technique allows me to create more definition, contrast, and dimension in my subject matter. For me, Black and White photos help me express the purity and uniqueness of the subject, which I hope will also be understood by the people who see my work."
Mixed Media – Watercolor and Colored Pencil
"In the past few years, my paintings have often included the combination of watercolor and artist colored pencil. I use a technique which requires several layers of watercolor and then several layers of colored pencil. I use this technique when I want my painting to result in a very colorful and bold expression of the subject. My mixed media approach helps me create the depth and energy I am striving for. I have discovered that painting fruits and vegetables lends itself to my use of mixed media, and therefore use those subjects often. I enjoy purchasing and preparing fresh foods and buy locally when possible. I usually paint from the “real thing”, rather than from a photo. As in my photography, I am always hoping to capture harmony, balance, and a feeling of peace."
