Corrin Smithson McWhirter - Painting, Drawing & Mixed Media
Corrin Smithson McWhirter is a native of southern Ontario, Canada. She studied sculpture and installation at the Nova Scotia Collage of Art and Design and received her Bachelors of Fine Arts from York University. She currently lives in Springfield, Illinois, and works as Gallery Director for the Springfield Art Association. This year, she is revealing her most recent body of work, Of These Places: A Study of Everyday Spaces, with a site-responsive installation for DEMO Project. The body of work, inspired by her early years of motherhood and the surface rubbings of Dada/Surrealist artist Max Ernst, draws attention to simple elements of everyday spaces—elements that, as adults, we have learned to stop seeing as we pursue our daily routines. The second phase of the collection will be exhibited as part of an exhibition titled Translation, opening April 30, 2016, at the Springfield Art Association's SAA Collective in the Hoogland Center for the Arts.
