Thursdays January 18 - March 8: 6 - 9 PM [Gene Tanta] Have you ever asked your adult self: why am I not more creative? Why am I not an artist? This class is an opportunity to reconsider the popular clichés that we so often accept as our own truths, such as: artists are geniuses, artists have to have innate talent, artists are hippies, I cannot draw a stick figure to save my life, etc. What if artists are just people who tend to have an open mind about what is possible? Together, we will move away from judging ourselves so harshly and move toward simply doing art.
Open to any level of experience or none at all; classes will cover mark-making on paper and introduce concepts such as: vocabulary of line, color field, and gesture. We will work in a serial manner of 3 or more surfaces at a time to put ourselves in the way of happy accidents (and to reduce the sense of preciousness artworks can come to have sometimes).
