Enos Park Residency
Springfield Art Association's Visual Artist Residency Program in Enos Park Neighborhood
|
RESIDENCY PROGRAM
In 2016, the SAA partnered with the City of Springfield and EPNIA, Enos Park Neighborhood Improvement Association, to launch an artist residency program for Enos Park. Modeled after many successful residency programs around the country, the goal is to attract up and coming artists to Springfield to complete a 6-12 month residency. The SAA utilized TIF funds from the City of Springfield to purchase a brick duplex on Fifth Street just to the south of SAA's campus. Artists receive low-cost housing with low-cost access to SAA studios in coordination with the SAA's Education Director. Each studio has an open studio fee, located here: Open Studio Info. If you have previous experience teaching and would like to offer a class during your stay, after your residency timeline has been determined, please, contact our Education Director. SPRINGFIELD ART ASSOCIATION The Springfield Art Association (SAA) has been a part of the Enos Park neighborhood for more than 100 years. The SAA was founded in 1909 by local community members and formally incorporated in 1913 when they received the deed to Edwards Place, a historic Italianate mansion with ties to Abraham Lincoln. For more information about Edwards Place that may inspire your creative endeavors: continue here. The campus hosts 6 studios: Metals, Hot and Cold Glass, Ceramics, and 2D studios; with 2 additional studios in the Broadwell Building in Downtown Springfield: Digital and Photography Studio. We house two galleries; M.G Nelson Family Gallery, a monthly exhibiting space on the main campus; and the SAA Collective, our local artist representative gallery in our Broadwell Building. We also house a large visual art resource library, the Michael Victor II Art Library which is open to the public and at your availability. |
