Harriett Zipfel- Fiber Arts
|
Harriett Zipfel’s quest as an artist is to create work that is both visually pleasing and emotionally evocative, pieces that leave a lasting impression on those who experience them.
She began sewing at nine years old in 4-H and has never stopped. In the early 1990s she discovered quilting, falling in love with the process of selecting fabrics, playing with color, and developing designs. Quilting with its cloth, batting, and backing remains the foundation of her practice. Yet Harriett has always felt an insatiable need to make, which has led her to explore a wide range of mediums including basketry, fabric dyeing, felting, acrylic painting, stained glass, and metalsmithing. Today, she continues to hone her skills in rope basketry, hand dyeing, Shibori, Sashiko, creative stitching, needle felting, and cold felting. Each new medium expands the language of her art, and as her work matures, the amalgam of these practices is becoming an integral part of her artistic voice. Through this exploration, Harriett strives to develop a personal and recognizable signature, so that one day the response to her work will be immediate and certain: “That’s a Harriett Zipfel!” |
