Alina Blair - Emerging Artist - Drawing
|
As a multidisciplinary artist based in Springfield, my preferred process is stippling using pen and ink. Using repetition as a meditative practice that transforms feelings of uncertainty into stillness, my body of work reflects my deep emotional relationship with the world I occupy. I seek beauty in everything—whether it's in flowers, in decay, or even in emotional pain. Taking visual representation from synchronicities in nature, the repetition of placing thousands of dots by hand allows me to sit with discomfort until its contentment.
All of my work uses texture to represent deterioration, like fragmenting memories. The concept is a metaphor for how negative memories slowly break down, even when their feelings remain. Grief is explored throughout the work, whether that be the ache of connections lost to circumstance, the experience of living with chronic illness, or the experience of being reduced to a piece of meat as a woman-presenting person, and how disheartening that can be. |
