2013 SUMMER ART CAMP DATES

This Summer, SAA will open its studios for another year of inspiration and imagination through self-expression at our Annual Summer Art Camp. Last year, we had 361 campers (ages 4 – 8th grade) cut, color, mold and paint their way through a week full of art. In 2013, the Fourth of July is on a Thursday. Therefore, the SAA’s Summer Art Camp schedule is as follows:
CONDELL STUDIO CAMPS
GRADES ARE BASED ON WHAT THE CHILD WILL BE ENTERING IN THE FALL OF 2013. (ex: if your child is currently in 2nd grade, but will be going into the 3rd, then you would sign up for the VAN GOGH GO’S Camp.)
WEEK 1: MINI MONETS (AGE 4 & 5)
FUNdamentals!

Campers will create work based on the elements of art in every project: texture, form, space, shape, color,
value and line. Through a variety of mediums and styles, they will have fun becoming a true artist!
WEEK 2: WEE WARHOLS (K- 2ND GRADE)
GLOW IN THE DARK

LIGHT THE NIGHT with this exciting camp! Campers will learn about slow camera exposures, luminescent materials, nocturnal animals and constellations!

“Let me introduce myself… ” This camp week will explore multiple ways to express yourself! Projects include unique self portraits and creative photo shoots.
JULY 1 – 5 NO CAMP; FOURTH OF JULY HOLIDAY
WEEK 4: WEE WARHOLS (K – 2ND GRADE) CONTEMPORARY ART

Campers will be introduced to artists that are working today. Exciting projects will be based on artwork from Kusama’s sculpture to Nick Cave’s sound suits.
WEEK 5: VAN GOGH-GO’S (3RD – 5TH GRADE) WORLDWIDE CELEBRATIONS

It’s time to celebrate with the world! Every culture has its traditions, we will explore these cultures and the art they use to celebrate. From the Panama kuna molas to the Ukraine eggs, with sand painting and sugar skulls, we’ll applaud their ART!
WEEK 6: VAN GOGH-GO’S (3RD – 5TH GRADE)
ROUTE 66 ROAD TRIP

Who call’s shotgun!? We are off across the US documenting our travels in inspired ways. Campers will make a one-of-a-k ind landmark installation to a camera book. They will learn new techniques like encaustic painting inspired by Jasper Johns “Map” painting.
WEEK 8: ROCKING REMBRANDTS: PRINT PACK (6TH – 8TH GRADE)

It’s a week to explore all that printing has to offer. The camper will understand the unique qualities of printmaking on
2D and 3D surfaces.

CERAMICS LAB CAMPS
WEEK 1: THE BISQUE KIDS (K- 2ND GRADE)

Campers will be seeing dots in this all- clay “Polka Dot” themed week. Kids will experience multiple processes in hand building: rolling, slipping and scoring. Creating fun projects like lanterns, sculptures and beads.
WEEK 2: RAKU RASCALS (3RD – 5TH GRADE)

This week is all about “Sound”! From a drum to a wind chime, campers will experience a new way to make music with clay.

You put your left foot in, you take your left foot out… Campers will work on wheel thrown, splicing, and unique glazing projects. Lessons in mold making will use hands and feet to create unique bowl projects. Campers will also learn to draw with glazes in the “Exquisite Corpse” lesson.
