What is Art Camp?
Each summer, the SAA opens its Fourth Street's studio
doors to offer a stimulating learning environment through
creative invention (themes),
natural curiosity (camp media), and
thoughtful reflection (portfolio development).
A special thank you to our

The SAA strives to provide a variety of experiences that regular school classrooms may not have the time, resources or space to permit. We pride ourselves on providing exactly those things so that campers can stretch their imagination and produce amazing pieces to take home. Each camp will produce different projects using at least 3 types of media, sometimes more. Some examples of media include clay, decoupage, fiber, found objects, mud, paper, painting, photo imagery, sculpture, wax, wire, wood, wax and silk screening. Not all campers will get to experiment with all things but be assured they will enjoy it all! Your little engineer is sure to become draftsman by week’s end as every proper artist puts their ideas on paper first; and your precise painter might roll up their sleeves and splatter to their heart’s content.
|
The SAA stresses that the process of exploration is just as important as the product. Your camper will spend countless hours busy in the studios to complete a final product, learning a lot about art techniques and themselves along the way. At the end of each week campers will take home a portfolio of work that contains both exercises and finished pieces, ready to hang up or set out at home. In this way, both parents and students alike can reflect on how much they learned on the week-long continuum. |

Please Read the Following Information Carefully before you Register
REGISTRATION: Students should register for the camp session that corresponds to their grade level during the 2009/10 school year. Payment is required at the time of registration. Registrations are accepted up to the first day of camp as long as space is still available. Space is limited and camps fill quickly. Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. You can sign-up in person or by mail. Only credit card payments can be made by phone. Please include the fully completed registration form when mailing your registration.
REFUNDS: A full refund will be given to a camper who withdraws from a camp at least one FULL week prior to the start of their camp. A 50% refund will be given upon withdrawal less than a week before camp begins. Except for documented medical reasons, NO refunds are given once a camp begins.
SAA does not offer make-up days for those missed by individual students. The SAA reserves the right to withdraw a student from a camp if it is necessary for the safety or well-being of the student or others and no refund will be given. SAA reserves the right to cancel camps because of insufficient enrollment and a full refund will be given.
AFTER REGISTRATION: Two weeks before the start of your first camp the SAA will mail additional camp materials to you to confirm your space, including camp policies, emergency form and a map.
CAMP PARTICULARS: Students must provide a healthy snack for half-day camps or sack lunch each day for the full-day camp. All campers must wear closed-toe shoes at all times (no flip-flops allowed) and clothes that can get messy. All camps take place on the Springfield Art Association campus. The SAA reserves the right to reproduce images of campers and their work. Camp sessions are for children only and parents may not stay in the classroom with their children.
scholARTships: Each summer, the SAA offers a LIMITED number of scholarships from grants and SAA donors. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need and/or artist potential. A simple narrative must be provided along with a form completed by a parent, teacher or other mentor. Applications can be obtained from the SAA Office. DEADLINE FOR scholARTships: TUESDAY, JUNE 1, 2010.
