Volunteer Opportunities

Calling all History Lovers!

Help us bring the past back to life at Edwards Place!  If you love history, Victorian homes, research, object preservation, antiques, or even acting, we would love your help! Enrich the community by sharing the story of Springfield’s social and domestic life of the nineteenth century in a variety of ways. The following opportunities are available:

· Docent:  Share the history of Edwards Place with visitors as a tour guide through the house.

· Transcriber: Create digital transcription of 19th-century Edwards family correspondence.

· Researcher: Conduct research on the family and their friends at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library.

· Interpreter: Portray members of the family and their friends in 19th century costume at special events.

· Events: Victorian Teas, Haunted Nights of History, programs and other workshops.

· Costumes:  Sew historically-accurate mid-1800s costumes for interpreters and portrayals.

There will be an informational meeting for prospective volunteers on May 7 at 10 am and again on May 10 at 7 pm.   Volunteer training will begin in early June. Contact the SAA office with any questions.
